Cici Gets Baptized | Houston Family Photographer

September 23rd, 2011

Next to the towering stand for the holy water, little Cici looked curiously at her family as the other kids dipped their hands into the bowl. “She will not remember this day,” the pastor told them solemnly, “so it is your job to remind her. To see this for her so that you can tell her when she is older.”

The children giggled, the adults smiled at each other, and it warmed my heart to be there and be a part of something that helped strengthen the strands holding this family together. Lots of love goes out to Meagan as well, for being such a wonderful assistant.

It’s haute in Houston | Houston Photographer | A senior styled photo shoot

August 19th, 2011

A record breaking 18 straight days of over 100 degrees has settled upon Houston. It’s hot. It’s humid. The minute you get out of your air conditioned haven, the sun’s intense stare will sear the energy out of you. In one such day, me, the beautiful Amy, and my assistant du jour, Debra, drove to [...]

In one such day, me, the beautiful Amy, and my assistant du jour, Debra, drove to the north side of Houston for a senior styled photo session. Sure it was hot, but with a sprinkle of fashion and a whole lot of fun, we got these awesome shots!

The Marine Gets the Girl | Operation Love Reunited

March 21st, 2011

So imagine this: a Parisian restaurant in a make-believe 1940s. A Marine enters and sees a beautiful girl delicately sipping her coffee in front of a window. A ray of sunlight shines on her black hair and lights up the flower by her ear. He is captivated by her. She looks up; their eyes meet. [...]

Ok, so Daniel Steele I am not, and we were actually shooting in a cafe in Pearland. But the romance? No, I didn’t make that up.

Seriously, don’t they just put a goofy smile on your face? Helen and Matt still have that newlywed glow, even though they’ve been married some time.

We switched it up a little and headed to a patch of green nearby. It was very windy, but thanks to Laurie Perez for donating her time to be my super cool, voice operated boom arm and stand holder for the day; we got some amazing shots in the field.

Their album just came in, and I’m excited to be sending it to Matt in his duty station in the Pacific. Being a part of Operation: Love Reunited lets me meet families like Helen and Matt, and help them stay connected during their long separations by donating my time, talent, and a beautiful album that they can treasure for years to come.

PS. Matt went to Japan a few days after their session with me. Thankfully, he is ok and was not very much affected by the natural disaster in the area. Let us pray for the well being of other people as well. A couple of nights ago, the news said that the effect was felt as far as Hawaii and it was suffering from terrible flooding.

PPPS. Big thanks go out to Mimi’s Cafe in Pearland for letting us use their gorgeous interior for our shoot. You guys rock, and your food is delicious too!

Helen and Matt | Operation Love Reunited Sneak Peek

March 2nd, 2011

A few days ago, I had an awesome time photographing Helen and her Marine husband, Matt, for the non-profit organization OpLove. Here’s a taste of their session. Saucy yet romantic and bittersweet, you’re thinking, and you’re absolutely right : ) PS. (Obligatory disclaimer: The photographs and other content of this publication do not constitute or [...]

If you follow me, you know that I and my super half ( Adam) met, fell in love and married while we were both in our first year in the Navy. We were married in a civil ceremony after asking permission from our command, and had only two of his friends to stand as both witnesses and pseudo bridesmaid/groomsman. Needless to say, I know how hard certain circumstances can be, and there are a lot of sacrifices involved when we serve our country.

Operation: Love Reunited allows me to give back to our military members with sessions like this one below. It makes me happy knowing that my client’s husband will receive photos of her and their son while he’s stationed somewhere in the Pacific. During this holiday season, let’s all remember the people who are out there foregoing their families so that we can be safe with ours.

a pretty-ful day in downtown houston | houston portrait photographer

The corner of Bagby and West Gray rocks. The day was clear and not terribly humid nor hot, blue skies above and a sun that played hide and seek behind the clouds. Just one of those super beautiful Houston days.

And we finally ended up having lunch at this restaurant called Farrago’s. It was delicious, and I’d show you my chicken quesadilla but I pretty much tore it up before my brain caught up and I decided to take a photo. Poor Megs had to wait till I finished clicking away before she got a bite off her spring rolls. What a trooper :)

A few months ago, I met Rachel at a networking opportunity for Houston photographers. She’s sassy and funny – needless to say, we got along swimmingly. So a couple of weeks ago, she and I decided to have fun and just shoot each other. It was a tad sweltering outside, but that didn’t deter us from packing up our epiphanie and jill-e bags, and traipsing down Jackson Hill. One minute of stepping out into the heat and we were glistening beatifically. It was glorious.

I can’t wait to see how the photos of me turned out (there was some kind of acrobatic leap in front of a garage, and enough “Bend and Snap” to make Legally Blonde proud). But here’s our favorites of the photos I took of her.

Some people have the audacity to be both terribly good looking and super talented. You know the type? Yeah. But they have to compound the situation by also being exceptionally nice. You can’t help but love em, and you can’t help but love Annie.

Have I said how talented this woman is? I asked her to take some portraits of my mean mug so I can have something decent for my profile. I hate getting photos of me taken. Hate hate hate. My place is behind the lens, and getting in front of it sets my teeth on edge. I don’t know what to do! So I started playing around, telling myself I didn’t care if I smiled this way and that one tooth poked out behind my bottom lip. (The bane of my adult life.) We joined the myriad photographers, models, and baby models at Mercer Arboretum last Saturday. When Annie said, “Look that way,” I flashed my eyes that way; when she said, “Okay, seductive smile now,” I burst out laughing. Click. And you know what? That’s perfect. There was true joy in that laugh. I wish more people would take themselves less seriously and just let go a good guffaw. Annie called me a natural (I giggled) but it made me feel comfortable in front of the lens.

And while she was snapping away in front of me, I managed to quickly shoot a few photos of her and the arboretum as I posed.

Below is my favorite of the photos from Annie: this image of a half woman-half camera. It encompasses how I see myself, perhaps better than a self-portrait could, where I could brood for days and not take a single picture. Not to mention it makes me look pretty darn good, in my totally unbiased opinion.
