Kelsey and Jason | A Wedding Story | Las Vegas

March 30th, 2011

When you think of Vegas, you think glitz. The bright lights of the Strip, the colorful concoctions of the slot machines. But this Vegas story is a quieter one. When you think of Vegas, you think glitz. The bright lights of the Strip, the colorful concoctions of the slot machines. But this Vegas story is a quieter one. It happened about 20-30 minutes northwest of the Strip, away from the masses and toward the beautiful mountains. Here in Lakeside Chapel, Kelsey and Jason saw each other for a First Look in a beautiful garden. Then as the sun began to set, they pledged their love underneath a trellised awning kissed by the setting sun.

It was a small ceremony with their families and friends, and I was blessed to have been there to photograph these special moments. Blessed, too, for having my friend, Laurie Perez, come as my second shooter all the way from Houston, and some of her images are mixed into the storyboards below. I hope you enjoy looking at these memories as much as we enjoyed photographing them!

The Marine Gets the Girl | Operation Love Reunited

March 21st, 2011

So imagine this: a Parisian restaurant in a make-believe 1940s. A Marine enters and sees a beautiful girl delicately sipping her coffee in front of a window. A ray of sunlight shines on her black hair and lights up the flower by her ear. He is captivated by her. She looks up; their eyes meet. [...]

Ok, so Daniel Steele I am not, and we were actually shooting in a cafe in Pearland. But the romance? No, I didn’t make that up.

Seriously, don’t they just put a goofy smile on your face? Helen and Matt still have that newlywed glow, even though they’ve been married some time.

We switched it up a little and headed to a patch of green nearby. It was very windy, but thanks to Laurie Perez for donating her time to be my super cool, voice operated boom arm and stand holder for the day; we got some amazing shots in the field.

Their album just came in, and I’m excited to be sending it to Matt in his duty station in the Pacific. Being a part of Operation: Love Reunited lets me meet families like Helen and Matt, and help them stay connected during their long separations by donating my time, talent, and a beautiful album that they can treasure for years to come.

PS. Matt went to Japan a few days after their session with me. Thankfully, he is ok and was not very much affected by the natural disaster in the area. Let us pray for the well being of other people as well. A couple of nights ago, the news said that the effect was felt as far as Hawaii and it was suffering from terrible flooding.

PPPS. Big thanks go out to Mimi’s Cafe in Pearland for letting us use their gorgeous interior for our shoot. You guys rock, and your food is delicious too!

What happens in Vegas…so the saying goes | A wedding story teaser

March 9th, 2011

For my first trip to Vegas, I thought I did pretty well: I won $50 and lost $25 on Deal or No Deal slot machines. I saw lions in MGM Grand, saw the dancing waters of Bellagio, walked inside Mandalay Bay, drank Frozen Hot Chocolate in Kim Kardashian’s candy store, and brushed elbows with tourists [...]

For my first trip to Vegas, I thought I did pretty well: I won $50 and lost $25 on Deal or No Deal slot machines. I saw lions in MGM Grand, saw the dancing waters of Bellagio, walked inside Mandalay Bay, drank Frozen Hot Chocolate in Kim Kardashian’s candy store, and brushed elbows with tourists from around the country.

And then there was this beautiful wedding.

More pretty pictures to come later. This is just to whet your appetite. For now, I leave you with this:

Kris and Laurie pose under the Las Vegas sign

PS. We stayed in the Hilton Vacation Suites in the north side of the Strip. If you’re a Vegas newb like Laurie and I, the north side is not the most exciting spot, but the Tram is about a 5 minute walk next door and it will take you down the Strip for far less than those taxis will.

PPS. Wear your most comfortable pair of shoes. See above photo for Exhibit A.
